For the T.A. Barnes Novels website I used the Elegance child theme for the Genesis framework. The limited color scheme of white and blue was requested by the artist. The icon I used for the site is a small crop from the cover of his most recently published novel.
Mr Barnes is a respected and seasoned journalist who also writes fiction. He requested a website that would contain all of his published fiction in one site. He requested links to the respective Amazon.com pages (for the author and each of the novels), links to his reviews on Goodreads.com, a mailing list, and a listing of awards for each novel. In addition, he wanted his short stories to be published in their entirety on the website.
The Home Page and Menu
The header menu includes links to Home, Novels, Short Stories, About, and Contact. On the front page I used a testimonial slider to highlight reviews of his books. I also featured each of his novels as a custom post type with the Genesis Author Pro plugin.
The footer section features links to join the author’s mailing list and a contact link.
The Novel Pages
Each page features a quote from the book, a link to the first chapter, book reviews, awards, judge’s comments, and links to both the Amazon page and the Goodreads page.
The contact page features a contact form. I used the Ninja Forms plugin to create the customized form.
Plugins I used during development included Regenerate Thumbnails to resize images, MailChimp for WordPress, Yoast, and Ninja Forms. The images were manually optimized in Gimp. For each main novel image I added a book overlay using Gimp so that the images appeared as hard-backed books. The website is made responsive to work on mobile, tablet, and desktop devices.
Editing and code additions: HTML5, CSS3, PHP.
Search Engine Optimization
The TA Barnes Novels website has been fully optimised for SEO based on their specific keywords. All images, content and the complete structure of the website has been optimised for best SEO practices.
Working on the T.A. Barnes Novels website was a good opportunity to highlight the work of a writer who has already established his brand.
